Feeling a little under the weather? It is common for many people to become ill as seasonal changes occur. What's worse than sicking up? Having to go to the doctor! Not only is it difficult to commute to a physician's office when all you want to do is hit the bed, it becomes increasingly painful to be handed several medication to intake at a given moment. Capsules may differ in size and color but one thing is certain. They taste absolutely horrible! There have been many occasions that I've asked doctors to give me medication in syrup form. Unfortunately, capsules outnumber syrup medicine.
I tried on many occasions to swallow pills whole but I was unable to do so. With it being difficult to get tablets down, I would often refuse to take medicine altogether or would end up with an upset stomach. I wondered often what I will do in case I become severely ill. There's just no way I would be able to ingest many capsules together. A short while ago, I discovered pill crushers in a local pharmacy. I was intrigued by its' unique look and wholeheartedly thought a pill crusher may make a big difference!
My haunch paid off big time! Pill crushers are available in electric and manual forms and are used by professionals and patients alike. The one I have is dual purpose. It has a container and a pill crusher. After unscrewing the cap, I threw in my tablets and then placed the cap back on. After twisting the cap a couple of times, my medication was grinded into super fine powder. I then mixed the fine powder into a glass of water and drank it with great ease.
Medical experts also advocate the use of pill crushers as you'll get the maximum value. Crushed pills can increase your body's absorption rate and the speed of effectiveness. Once medications are ingested, they are broken down over time. Some tablets require a higher amount of digestive enzymes which may not be present in your body. Undigested capsules may cause a multitude of problems such as joint pain, kidney stones and blocked vessels. However, it is advisable to consult your physician before crushing drugs with time-realase properties.
